The Company's name comes from the initials of the founder Genzō Shimadzu, who was a pioneer in Japanese industrial history that researched and produced the first storage battery in Japan. He was acclaimed as Japan’s “Edison” and honored as one of Japan’s 10 great investors for his various inventions and contributions to science.
